We were really pleased to have Nathan Timothy from The Song Writing Charity visit for the day and create a song with students using their musical ideas for lyrics and sounds. You can listen to the result here.

This week it is Activity Week at Lancaster. Our Stubbers group have arrived at the camping ground and are all settled in.
This morning we have a brilliant flute workshop with Kerry and Dave and their Biggest Little Flute Show. Students loved listening to the music and talking about how the flute works.
Our Ofsted Report was published today and we are really pleased to have maintained our status as a good school.
We are very excited as the 3 new classrooms for Key Stage 4 are nearly complete. We can't wait to start using them.
Another 3 students worked a shift today at our friendly learning cafe called Elevenses.
Louise, the Head teacher at Kingsdown, and Tom met Anna Firth, the MP for Southend West, today to discuss the issues with school transport and how it can be improved. We hope that Anna will help us to improve this service for all our students and their families.
Some of our students went to see Wicked on Wednesday at the Apollo Theatre in London. They travelled by train and tube and coped really well when we came back during rush hour.
Parents will be fully aware of the journey we have been on over the last two years. The disruption to our students lives and learning has been unprecedented and we are keen to get the school back to full running order. So far we have kept to class bubbles and while this has been relatively safe, students have missed out on many social opportunities, friendships and assemblies.
In order to achieve our aim of running the school in the ‘new normal’ way, we have met with one of the expert specialist doctors in Southend and discussed in detail how we can do this and keep everyone in school as safe as possible.
It’s important for parents to know that nearly every single member of staff in school has had the three vaccinations.
We now also know that 75% of parents sent us information about their son / daughters vaccinations status and that 75% of these students have had at least their first vaccination and most have had 2 or 3. So over half of our students have had 2 or more vaccinations. This helps to protect us all.
We now test over 90% of students using the LFD test on site regularly and this has become part of our students’ normal routines.
To move forward, here is what we will be doing after half term –
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about this. I will be updating our risk assessment to reflect these changes and putting it on the website in due course.

On the 8th February it is Safer Internet Day. We will be thinking about how to stay safe online.
Have a Heart for HARP Valentines Disco
Friday 11th February 2022
1.30pm-2.30pm
Dear Parents and Carers,
On Friday 11th February we are having an online Valentines disco raising funds for HARP, Southend’s Homeless charity. Classes will be remaining in bubbles and logging in to see the DJ’s in the hall. We are encouraging students to wear red on this day or clothing with hearts on it.
HARP Southend’s Homeless Charity is a very successful and a much-needed resource in the area providing meals, shelter and advice to the homeless and those in danger of becoming homeless.
If you would like to donate then please send in any cash donations with your son/daughter.
There are also wrist-bands to purchase which cost a £1 - all proceeds to HARP
Thank you
